My first year of uni was really stressful, especially having to move all my life to England in just a couple of suitcases. I ended up having to buy a lot of college essentials throughout the year because no one told me about them or I would’ve never imagined I’d need them.
I spent a lot of hours looking for the best deals and items to purchase and I wanted to put together a college essentials list for you with the exact items I bought on my 1st year at uni.
Whether you’ll be living at uni halls or on your own these college essentials will make your life a lot easier!
I hate ironing my clothes, I mean, who doesn’t? I always saw people at clothes stores using this to get rid of wrinkles it looked so easy and satisfying. And it actually is. This prevented me from going around with my clothes all wrinkled. Must-have.
1 Person Dish Set
Don’t waste your money on huge sets of dishes because you probably won’t need it. I’d invest in kitchen items such as crock pots, good quality pans, etc and not in sets with 20 different types of plates.
Noise Cancelling Headphones
I get annoyed extremely easily when I am studying or need to be concentrated. Used to hate going to the library because even the smallest noise puts me in a really bad mood. When I got these headphones my life changed. Now I can study and work at coffee shops without the need to kill everyone.
White Noise Machine
If I get annoyed with noise when I’m studying, imagine what happens to me when I’m sleeping. I tried earplugs but they’d fall all the time and were completely useless. This little thing saved my life when living at uni halls.
2″ Mattress Topper
Uni halls mattresses are the worst thing ever. I got this after 2 nights of sleeping on that mattress, and it was genuinely the best decision. You can choose between a lot of different types depending on how thick you want it and the material. Lots of people get 4″ toppers but a 2″ one was enough for me.
My Uni Printables
Organising and planning are essential during your years at college. I have created these College Printables to help you stay focused and organised. The binder includes a variety of lecture-related printables such as essay planners, daily planners, to-do lists, etc. And some uni-life-related printables like my 3-pages Packing checklist, grocery shopping list, weekly schedule, etc. I know you’ll love them and they are FREE.
I discovered this just recently and I give it a completely different use – cosmetic fridge – but I would’ve loved it at uni. You can keep your dinner or drinks fresh during your study sessions so you don’t lose concentration going to the kitchen every half an hour.
You won’t believe how many times my flatmates and I said: we need a panini press. Getting one was such a good decision, we used to make paninis when we got back from some party, or during study sessions when you don’t want to lose too much time cooking. It’s the easiest thing and it’s an investment you’ll never regret.
I’ve been using tote bags for the last 5 or 6 years and my shoulders can’t take it anymore. I was looking for a waterproof backpack – because in England rain it’s all we get – and found this lovely thing for next year. The colour is gorgeous and it has room for absolutely everything you need. This is in my personal college essentials list for next year.
3 in 1 Breakfast Maker
I’ve never owned one of these but OMG I need one. David and I love our full English breakfasts on Sundays and this will make our lives a lot easier. This would’ve been amazing for those Saturday mornings after a night out when all you want is a good breakfast.
Essential Oil Diffuser
You won’t be allowed candles at uni halls and if you’re like me, that’s really sad. I love the candles relaxing vibe give me and how nice everything smells. I had to come up with a way to get that and this oil diffuser was the best.
Storage Bag Organizers
I highly recommend this to those who plan on taking A LOT of clothes to uni. I had to get winter and summer clothes and my closet got a little crazy. This was the best solution for me, I can save the clothes I know I’m not going to use and everything stays tidy and organised.
This will be a massive help when you are not feeling like deep-cleaning your bedroom but can’t deal with dust. I especially love this for my desk and small spaces.
Desk Organizer Set
You’ll end up with a lot of documents, printables, books and notes and not keeping them organised and not knowing where they are can be really stressful and dangerous. This set has everything you’ll need to keep everything under control.
LED Desk Lamp
I don’t know if you’ll face the same problem but lightning in my room was really poor. I had to get an extra desk lamp and this one made my day because it comes with USB ports to charge your phone at the same time.
I hope you find these college essentials really helpful and wish you good luck in your new chapter!
