My mum is a beauty specialist so, as you can imagine, I’ve heard the sentence “the skincare routine you use when you are 20 will define how you look when you are 50″ a billion times. And she’s absolutely right.
I learned really useful and amazing skincare routine essential products and tips from her and I’m going to share with you the ones I use.
1- Wash your face every single day at night
I don’t mean washing it with water and a bit of soap, we all do that. I mean clean it with a facial cleanser or micellar water if you’re wearing make up, I use this one by glossier (£10) and it’s amazing.
Every 4 o 5 days I use an exfoliator (£3.39) to take care of all the blackheads and the dead skin. This depends on the type of skin you have, if your skin is dry you’ll have to use it every 7 or 10 days. I also recommend you to add a night moisturizer or lotion to your skincare routine.
Not only in summer or if you look like casper – welcome to the club – sunscreen can prevent from multiple issues. First and most important, skin cancer. It also prevents from getting long-term sun spots or big freckles and moles that can be harmful. Sun protection factor 10 or 20 won’t prevent you from getting tan but it’ll give extra protection to your skin.
3. Priming Moisturizer
This is definitely not news. Primer not only gives you an extra layer between your makeup and the skin, but it helps it adhering better. This will prevent you from getting pimples and also it will make your foundation look good throughout the day. I use a Spanish brand my mum works with, but when I run out I use this one by Glossier (£18) and it’s truly amazing.
4. Choose the perfect foundation
As you may know, this is not as easy as it sounds. It took me 20 years to find a foundation that matches my skin colour, doesn’t break after 3 hours and doesn’t make my skin look like the Sahara desert afterwards. I recommend you to spend a little bit more on a good foundation, it will prevent you from spending hundreds of pounds on creams when your skin gets bad. Check my post “The ultimate guide to your perfect foundation”. I use this one by Lancome (£33.50) which also has sunscreen.
5. CLEAN YOUR BRUSHES!
Yes, I know it’s a pain in the ass, but it’s imperative that you wash all your brushes at least once a month. The amount of bacteria and dead skin they accumulate over the days it’s truly disgusting and it can’t be good for your skin. There are some things that will make this task easier for you such as this cleansing palette (£9.74) . Fill a bowl with water and soap and let the brushes soak for 1h – I add a bit of micellar water for a deeper clean – get your palette and sweep the makeup away.
6. Ask beauty specialists
Bloggers don’t have the absolute truth about anything, we can help you and give you some tips but you have to ask specialists for everything in life. I suggest you to get facial treatments every now and then. Facial hygiene treatments are amazing and not that expensive. If you have oily skin try and get one every 3 months, for dry skin every 4 months should be enough.
And…meditate. Take care of your skin and your mind. Hope this helps you not only look better but feel better as well.
