I am sure you’ve heard about The Ordinary recently and how they are revolutionising the beauty world. If you are not already obsessed with this budget-friendly cosmetic brand you are about to be, that’s for sure. The Ordinary has taken pricey ingredients – or at least they used to be – stripped away the fancy bits and created effective formulas everyone can benefit from.
Another reason to love The Ordinary is that all of their products are free from parabens, cheap filler mineral oil and other synthetics. Their products are selling out every week and they are turning into heroes of the beauty world.
When a new brand comes out and gains admirers, we all want to try it and see what all the fuss is about, but it can be tricky to know what to buy and what’s going to work best for you. I’ve created this The Ordinary Skincare Routine Guide to help you figure out what to buy from The Ordinary based on your skin type.
The Ordinary Skincare Routine For Sensitive Skin
No fillers and other chemicals mean that The Ordinary formulas are particularly potent, so people with sensitive skin should approach the products with caution. This routine will soothe and nourish easily. In the morning, after cleansing, use the moisture-binding Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 then follow with Natural Moisturising Factors + HA, which is a great moisturiser.
The Ordinary Skincare Routine For Dry Skin
Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is THE product for dry skin. It delivers heavy-duty hydration without suffocating your skin. Explaining how Hyaluronic Acid works is not an easy task but I’ll try. The molecular size of HA determines how deeply it will penetrate into your skin. One of the wonders of this product is the combination of low, medium and high molecular-weigh, meaning it’ll work in every layer of your skin.
Next, double up your dose with Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA, which will seal the moisture into the skin’s surface for a perfect glow without looking greasy.
In the evening, repeat your morning routine but add a layer of 100% Plant-Derived Squalane between your serum and moisturiser for an extra shot of hydration.
Once a week, use the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution for a brighter and more even look. Don’t apply it for too long – 10 minutes max – and if you are an acid or exfoliator newbie I don’t recommend any more than 4.
The Ordinary Skincare Routine For Acne-Prone Skin
The Amino Acid + B5 offers intense, non-greasy hydration maintaining skin healthy and balanced. The solution is formulated to deliver hydration while repairing skin and adding elasticity.
Follow this with Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, to regulate sebum production and keep your complexion balanced.
If your acne has been persistent over the years, you’ve likely got a few scars out of it. This Retinol 1% in Squalane is a skin-regenerating that works miracles on fading acne marks and pigmentation. If you have never used this before, try diluting a drop of this with your moisturiser until your skin gets used to the actives.
The Ordinary Skincare Routine For Oily Skin
At night, use the non-greasy Amino Acid +B5 solution to add hydration with messing with your oil balance and top it with Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% to prevent breakouts. Once a week, have self-love moment and try the Salicylic Acid 2% Masque for an extra shot of skin health.
The Ordinary Skincare Routine For Combination Skin
With combination skin the most important thing is balance. With Amino Acids + B5 you’ll keep your sebum production under control but still hydrate your skin properly. The Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution provides first-class daily exfoliation to give your skin a visible boost of radiance and clarity.
At night, the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 will give you the perfect moisture shot alongside Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% , which brightens the skin tone while visibly improving the evenness of skin texture and reducing the look of blemishes. It is a multi-task support product for all skin types and also acts as an effective antioxidant.
