Moving into uni halls can be really stressful and overwhelming, you might think you need things you will never use – see my blog post “What Not to Bring To Uni – 10 Things You Won’t Need” – or forget some of the essentials – 15 Best College Essentials Every Student Needs To Survive.
Either way, if you are here we both agree on something: you want your uni bedroom to look cute. You have spent hours browsing Pinterest looking for the best uni bedroom ideas but can’t find the things you see or don’t know what to start with.
First things first, download my personal University Packing Checklist here. It genuinely has everything you’ll need and it’ll save you a lot of time. Now, let’s get to business! Check the best uni bedroom ideas and decoration here:
Bed sheets will be your best friend when decorating your room. Apart from being an essential part of the style you’re going for, they are a really easy and cheap way to “re-decorate” your bedroom every now and then. Uni halls bedrooms are not very big and you’ll end up getting bored of it sometimes, change your bed sheets or duvet cover and you’ll feel that you’re in a brand-new space!
Pillows are another easy way of re-decorating every now and then and they are the key to a cosy and homey vibe. I always recommend getting cheap pillows from Primark or similar shops and spending a little bit more on nice covers that you can change. Mixing textures and patterns will add personality to your room and adding personalised pillows like the ones in the middle – which are just £5 – will make your room look amazing.
Wall Hanging Tapestry
Decorating your walls will make your room feel more “yours” and to be honest, the colours they use for those walls are awful. Tapestry or pictures are a really good option and you can find hundreds of designs for really cheap. Add some fairy lights around your tapestry to create the cosiest bedroom.
Rugs are my favourite thing in the world. Apart from changing completely the look of a room, they feel amazing and are really cute. Get a fluffy rug of a similar colour to your bed sheets or on a neutral tone – grey, white, beige – to create an amazing look. Avoid black rugs, uni bedrooms are small and black will make them look tiny.
Prints and pictures of your friends and family are another good option to make your room look stunning. If you are going for a “glam” kind of look check the prints below – there are hundreds – and pick accordingly to the colour palette you’d like to go for.
Plants bring spaces to life, even if they are tiny or fake. I felt a massive difference when I started buying little cactus and now I can’t live in a room without plants. If you don’t have experience with plants try getting low-maintenance or even fake greenery. If you are brave and love a challenge, try to grow your own avocado tree, it will save you a lot of money!
And at last but not least, fairy lights! I don’t have to say much about them, we love them already. They are cheap, cute, make every room look warm and cosy.
